Send the document or tell us what you need
Tell us how many documents you have and where in Japan the finished documents need to go.
Getting married in Japan
Need a sworn statement that you are single or free to marry? For eligible U.S. documents, we can arrange the online notary appointment, apostille and DHL delivery. Send us your document or the instructions from the office in Japan, and we will confirm the price.
The price
This price is for the Japan single-status affidavit service described here. We need to check the document and the Japanese office’s instructions before confirming that it applies. It is not a general price for other apostille or shipping requests.
The price includes online notarization, the apostille and DHL shipping. Each additional eligible document costs $60 when it can go through the same process.
We usually aim to hand the finished paperwork to DHL about three business days after the document and signer steps are ready. Delivery after pickup depends on the destination and DHL. Other countries and document types have different document and shipping costs.
How many documents do you need?
Which city or ward office, or other receiving party in Japan, will receive them?
What has that office asked for: an affidavit, a no-record search, a translation, an apostille or original DHL delivery?
Where is the signer, and what ID will they use?
Start with the office’s instructions
If your city hall has told you to visit the U.S. embassy or consulate, send us those instructions. A statement obtained through a consulate follows a different process from one notarized by an online U.S. notary. For our service, we arrange the notarization and apostille together.
To date, none of the Japan affidavits we have handled has been rejected. Send the receiving office’s instructions so we can check what it needs before arranging notarization, the apostille and shipping.
We do not decide whether you are legally free to marry.
We do not replace advice or instructions from the Japanese office, a lawyer, a translator, an embassy or a consulate.
We handle the document steps when online notarization and an apostille are appropriate.
The steps
You can ask about the price before doing an ID check. To confirm your price, we need the number of documents, where they are going and any instructions from the receiving office.
Tell us how many documents you have and where in Japan the finished documents need to go.
The standard price is $300 for one eligible document. Additional documents that fit the same service are usually $60 each.
The signer completes the identity-document check, then attends a live online notary appointment with their actual ID.
After notarization, we arrange the apostille and DHL delivery when the document qualifies.
Before you send
Japan is part of the Apostille Convention. Your receiving office still decides which documents it needs. Check whether it wants a notarized affidavit, a no-record search, a translation, an apostille, original delivery or its own form.
Send us any written instructions you have from that office. If you do not have instructions, tell us which office or receiving party you are dealing with so we can explain what we can offer.
